Paul Joseph Ianni, age 87, of New Kensington, formerly of Creighton, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024 at UPMC St. Margaret Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born on October 17, 1936 in Creighton and was the son of the late Paul and Mary Rose (Principe) Ianni.
Paul grew up in Creighton and was a graduate of East Deer High School. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, Oakland where he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Upon completing his degrees, Paul relocated to Long Island, New York to teach. He was always coming back home to the Alle-Kiski area to spend time with his parents, family, and friends. Paul was a resident of New Kensington for over the past 35 years. He was a member of Mount Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. A retired mathematics teacher, Paul enjoyed his retirement pursuing his love of several sports. He was an avid fan of horseracing and followed the daily races.
As a loyal alum of Pitt he regularly attended and enjoyed the football games with a seat on the 50 yard line. Paul also was an enthusiastic card player and participated in several card clubs. He was a member of the American Slovak Club in Creighton. Paul is survived by eleven nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel F. Ianni, Nicholas Ianni, and Lawrence Ianni.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in the Paul R. Ajak Funeral Home, 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, PA 15030, where parting prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Friday in Mount Saint Peter R.C. Church,100 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068. Burial will follow in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
